“Let go, Relax and Breath. When the body relaxes,
the body will follow and the poses become easy”

Hello, I am Eliza, #Yogini Imperfection

I started yoga because of my neck and shoulder pain caused by working in front of computer all day. Since the yoga class was included in my gym package, I attended the class out of curiosity. I was lucky that a wonderful teacher, Monica Cordes, taught it. The pain seemed to disappear gradually and I knew Yoga must have helped. Boy! Did this ever change my journey! Even then, I never wanted to be a yoga teacher. The thought of standing in front of a class, demonstrating yoga poses and checking if anyone is doing anything that may injure themselves, is pretty scary. Somehow, something mysterious is secretly guiding me to the right path – I enrolled in the yoga teacher training at Sheridan College.

I have been teaching yoga since 2006 at various places. Currently it is mainly at the Newmarket Recreation Community Centre. Besides Gentle Hatha yoga, I am also specialized in Pre-natal yoga and is the ‘Relax and Renew Trainer’ for Restorative yoga, certified by Judith Lasater, a well known yoga teacher in US.

My teaching is influence of various styles – Iyengar, Vanda Scaravelli, Kripaula. I do not want my class to focus on how many yoga poses they have learned. Instead, I want them to pamper themselves by making time to rest and improve health with regular yoga practice.

Some people think yoga teachers are vegetarian. This is why I called myself #Yogini Imperfection – I eat meat, like red wine and may even swear a little. I don’t think we need to be perfect to be human. What matter is, be truthful.

PS: English is not my first language. If you catch grammatical error in my blog, please excuse my “Chinese” :).  We can always switch to the one that we both understand – the language of Namaste.

I would love to hear from you:
